RIHANNA
Rihanna, a Multi-platinum MTV VMA, Grammy and American Music Award Winning Artist, earned the coveted title of international superstar at the young age of 19. In just three years, Rihanna has helped define the path of popular music, accrued multiple #1 hits, two MTV Video Music Awards and three Billboard Awards under her belt. In addition to her mind blowing success, Rihanna created a charity organization for improverished children and has signed on to endorse a wide variety of multi-billion dollar companies.
Her path was paved when she met Evan Rogers in 2003; a New York music producer who was by chance vacationing at Barbados. He offered her to go to New York to record some music demos that was shown to Def Jam CEO, Jay Z, soon afterwards. Def Jam promptly signed her and they quickly put together some singles. Her debut single, "Pon de Replay", was initially aired in August 2005. The Carribean-rhythmed disco single immediately soared to the 2nd spot of Billboard Hot 100 chart, even before the album, Music of the Sun, was ever released. Her other popular songs include "SOS" and "Unfaithful".
Rihanna`s third album, Good Girl Gone Bad (2007), continued her success and, more notably, signaled a change of direction. A sexier and sultrier Rihanna came up with a first-rate dance-pop album. Moreover, it was solid, stacked with several chart-topping singles with boasting collaborations with Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, Timbaland, and StarGate. By this point it was clear that Rihanna had become one of the biggest singles artists of the mid-2000s.
CHRIS BROWN
The MTV VMA, Billboard and Teen Choice Award Winning Artist rose to fame in mid 2005 with his Billboard Ht 100 number-one, Scott Storch-produced debut single "Run It!" He became the first male solo artist to release a single that went straight to the top of the Billboard singles chart. Only 16 at the time, Brown came from a small town in Virginia called Tappahannock and, like a lot of kids born since the early `80s, was initially into his parents` favorites but eventually fell under the spell of hip-hop. Around the time he reached puberty, he discovered his singing voice. Within a couple years, he had a recording contract with Jive and was lined up with several production and songwriting heavyweights for his eponymous first album, an immediate Top Ten hit released in November of 2005. Exclusive, featuring the number one pop single "Kiss Kiss," followed in 2007. The album scored brown three Billboard Awards in 2006, one of them being the most prestigious, Artist of the Year. The album also received nomination for a Grammy, in the Best Contemporary R&B Album category.
Brown has begun production for his sophomore release. Six of which Brown co-wrote. Other than his singing career, Brown has branched into some acting. He made short appearances on UPN`s One on One and The-N`s The Brandon T. Jackson Show on its pilot episode. In addition, Brown landed a small role as a band geek in the fourth season of FOX`s The O.C. in January 2007. Originally scheduled to guest in eight episodes, it was cut to only three, so that Brown could work on his second studio album. Brown made his big screen debut in Stomp The Yard (originally titled Steppin`) alongside Ne-Yo, Meagan Good and Columbus Short in January 2007. According to TRL, Brown began filming for his second film, and first true leading role. All in all, Chris Brown proves that real talent, persistence and charisma making it big in the music industry.
